Anne Lister Memorial Week
Anne Lister died on September 22nd 1840 while travelling with Ann Walker at Koutais, Georgia. Her body was embalmed and was returned to Halifax to be buried at the Parish Church (now the Minster).
The Minster will have extended times for visiting from 10am – 4pm from Wednesday 22nd – Sunday 26th September to pay tribute or light candles at the High Altar, where the remains of Anne’s gravestone will be laid. Refreshments will be available.
On Wednesday 22nd September, the 181st anniversary of Anne’s death, the Minster will be open until 8pm.

The annual Anne Lister MEMORIAL SERVICE takes place this year on Friday September 24th. This service will be ticketed to comply with current Covid restrictions and are available please click here.
The memorial events close with the service of CHORAL EVENSONG on Sunday 26th at 4pm, which will also be attended by members of the Loyal Georgian Society. This timeless service uses the beautiful liturgy of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and will be sung by the Minster Choir.
The Minster is open to visitors daily from 12.00 – 4pm.
All visitors are asked to use hand-sanitiser, wear a face-covering in busier parts of the building (unless exempt) and to observe social distancing advice.
You would be most welcome to attend one of the Minster’s weekday services of Morning Prayer at 9am, Eucharist at 12.30pm and Evening Prayer at 4pm.
The Sunday Eucharist service is at 10.30am; Choral Evensong is at 4pm (both services sung by the choir in term-time).
