To support the development of aspiring young singers and to augment the music department, Halifax Minster offers four Choral Scholarships annually.

  • Scholarships are open to young musicians aged fifteen to twenty-three
  • A good standard of vocal and general musicianship is essential
  • Scholars are expected to show leadership, commitment and the dedication required to develop as a choral singer
  • Scholars are expected to attend Tuesday weekly rehearsals, in term time, and sing at Sunday 10.30am Sung Eucharist and 4.00pm Choral Evensong
  • The opportunity to coach and support younger choristers exists and would be valued
  • The scholarship, worth £1500 per annum, includes singing lessons given by a specialist singing teacher
  • Central to the scholarship is the opportunity to sing the centuries old great cathedral repertoire and to be involved with major services and concerts
  • The annual tour is a highlight of the year as are TV and Radio broadcast opportunities
  • The choir is welcoming and is a good place to make new friends
  • A number of former choristers have gone on to study at music college and university and one is currently a cathedral Director of Music
