Halifax-Minster

The Minster is open between 12 noon and 4 pm throughout the year. The Minster is a very busy venue for baptisms, weddings and funerals and access to the building may be restricted at certain times as a result.

Visiting Us

Follow signposts for Halifax from M62 J24 (Ainley Top) along the A629 Huddersfield Road.

Continue towards the town centre passing the hospital on the left-hand side. At the traffic lights immediately after Spring Hall Registry Office on the right-hand side, turn right following the brown tourism signs for Eureka.

Continue straight on over two mini roundabouts and pass the train station on your right-hand side before turning right onto Church Street.

The Minster is on your left.

From M62 J26 (Chain Bar) follow the A58 through Hipperholme.

After passing the entrance to Shibden Park the road drops down a steep hill towards the town centre.

Turn immediately left (do not go onto the flyover) and left again onto Charlestown Road towards Sainsbury’s supermarket.

Continue past Pizza Hut and Next.

The road curls round to the right, at which point the Minster Church is directly opposite you at the junction with Lower Kirkgate/Cripplegate.

Parking is available on the street or in several local authority car parks in the streets surrounding the church.

Halifax Minster is a short walk from both Halifax Train Station, Halifax Bus Station and The Piece Hall.

From Halifax train station on foot exit the station yard, turning right. Follow the footpath immediately to the right towards the Ring O Bells pub – Halifax Minster is directly behind the pub.

From Halifax Bus Station turn left down Wade Street then right onto Winding Road/ Smithy Street.

Turn left Causeway after 100 metres – Halifax. Minster’s west end is immediately in front of you through the stone arch.

Woolshops entrance on foot turn right onto Hatter’s Fold.

Follow the footpath down to Charles Street / Square Road and cross using the traffic island opposite Burger King.

Turn left and follow the footpath, turning right onto Causeway.

Entrance on foot follow the steps down past the Halifax Central Library.

Turn left on the footpath at the bottom, walking past Calderdale Industrial Museum on your left.

Cross the road using the traffic island opposite Burger King.

Turn left and follow the footpath, turning right onto Causeway.

Halifax Minster’s west end is immediately in front of you through the stone arch.

Entrance on foot turn left and walk down Blackledge, past Square Chapel Centre for the Arts on your left.

Turn right at the bottom of Blackledge and cross the road using the pedestrian crossing at the traffic lights.

Turn left and follow the footpath to the right where it forks.

Continue towards the Ring O Bells pub – Halifax Minster is directly behind the pub.

Facilities & Accessibility

The church has toilet facilities including a toilet with disabled access.  There is wheelchair access to the majority of the building, although due to the historic nature of the building, some of the ground surfaces are quite uneven.  A detailed Access Statement can be obtained on request from the Minster Office.
